This is My Moment

Not to beat this moment to within an inch of its life, but I kept thinking as Obama spoke of the great Anthony Newley tune, “Once In A Lifetime” from the musical Stop The World, I Want To Get Off. Several stars have recorded it, including Newley, Sammy Davis Jr., and Judy Garland.

I went looking for a recording to post and found this: It’s Sammy Davis and Newley sitting around with The Hef and a bevy in 1968. Six minutes into the video, Davis and Newley sing the song. It’s, well, timeless. Looking for more hits, coming your way soon. Meanwhile, here are the lyrics. Now if Obama had pulled this off in Berlin . . .

Just once in a lifetime

A man knows a moment

One wonderful moment

When fate takes his hand

And this is my moment

My once in a lifetime

When I can explore a new and exciting land

For once in my lifetime

I feel like a giant

I soar like an eagle

As though I had wings

For this is my moment

My destiny calls me

And though it may be just once in my lifetime

I’m gonna do great things

And this is my moment

My once in a lifetime

When I can explore a new and exciting land

For once in my lifetime

I feel like a giant

I soar like an eagle

As though I had wings

For this is my moment

My destiny calls me

And though it may be just once in my lifetime

I’m gonna do great things

How Trump Changed U.S. Foreign Policy

On September 16 the editorial board of the New York Times did the impossible. It said something nice about President Trump. “The normalization of relations between Israel and two Arab states, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, is, on the face of it, a good and beneficial development,” the editors wrote. ...
