Mystery to Me

“The Today Show this morning has a segment on the Mormon church, which it dubbed ‘a mysterious religion’.”

Well, then, they have committed an oxymoron. Every religion is a mystery religion — unless, I suppose, you count the “State religions”

of ancient Rome, imperial China, etc, which no-one was really expected to believe in. The entire point of religion is to find something satisfactory to say about the extremely mysterious business of being alive and conscious in a universe at least 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 miles across.

That MSM coverage of religion is pretty dire is, I guess, not news to NRO readers. This doesn’t help a bit in sorting out things like the Intelligent Design controversy… though I imagine a lot of the MSM-niks think it helps…
