Name That Party, Part DCCVII

The Politico has a story up “Madoff bought influence in Washington.” Ok, so who’d he give money to? After the mention of a lobbying firm, I kept waiting for a politician to be named. Here we go, in the 15th(!) paragraph:

The giving skewed largely Democratic, although donations were made to several Republicans, including scandal-ridden Rep. Vito J. Fossella (R-N.Y.).

One of the largest recipients of Madoff largess was Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), who received $39,000 from the family for his two Senate races. Bernard Madoff has given an additional $100,000 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee since Schumer took its helm in 2005.

Now aside from the tiresome (and entirely warranted) complaint that if it were Republicans primarily on the hook here this fact would be in the headline, it’s just bad journalism to bury perhaps the story’s most relevant information.
