Parenting Realities in Virtual Times

Naomi Schaefer Riley has a lovely and important new book Be the Parent, Please on the practicalities of the dangers of so much of the technology that children today are inundated with. Frankly, as adults overwhelmed by it – it’s hard not to be – don’t we want to protect our most precious ones.

I love Naomi’s tone – she doesn’t pretend to be the perfect parent downloading all of her brilliant wisdom from a pedestal. Instead, she focuses on research as well as blending in experiences of our culture – hers, humbly, and others. It’s sensible and accessible. Anyway, I hope to have more on the book to come here, but for now I wanted to point to an event she’ll be speaking at in New York City tonight sponsored by the Independent Women’s Forum. It’s right midtown at 6 P.M. I’m in D.C. for a foster-care event tonight, or I’d be there. I look forward to hearing from you all how it went. Speakers include former congresswoman Nan Hayworth and author Christine Rosen.
