Jon Scieszka, author of “The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales” and the “Time Warp Trio” series, will get the imprimatur of the Library of Congress today as the first National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature.
I’m no high brow when it comes to kid lit–I’m the father of a fourth grader who has plowed through a dozen or so volumes of the Chronicles of Conan, which are bound editions of the old Marvel comic. I’ve never heard of Jon Scieszka, and for all I know he’s a great author. Maybe I’ll even look him up. But does our federal government really need a National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature?
