Nearly Half of Americans Identify as Economically Conservative

In a new poll from Gallup, 46 percent of Americans identified as economically conservative, which is more than double the number of those that identify as economically liberal. There are also more Americans identifying as economic conservatives than as social conservatives or conservatives. Furthermore, the percentage of Americans who favor conservative economics has increased since Barack Obama’s election in 2008. These results suggest that Mitt Romney’s strategy of focusing on the economy should pay dividends in the presidential election.
