The Corner

Neila

I spoke by phone to Neila Charchour Hachicha, the Tunisian democracy activist, early this morning; the Tunisian government has once again blocked her internet access. She and her husband expect to hear his sentence today by 2 p.m. EDT, and she asks that people pray for them. While the Tunisian embassy in Washington has labeled her a “person of no consequence,” it seems she will be punished for taking President Bush at his word. It is unfortunate that the U.S. ambassador in Tunis has not visited her.
