The University of Washington notice below was sent to me by a friend. It is, alas, pretty routine stuff for campus memos nowadays. The thing that caught my eye was “glbtqtqi.” What happened to the dear old familiar “glbttqqi”? Can they really just muck about like this with the language of Chaucer and Shakespeare?

The Safe Zone Project, through education, advocacy, visibility, and skill development, supports faculty and staff to become allies for glbtqtqi students and colleagues. The Project is designed to radically reduce prejudice and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression at the University of Washington campus and create a safer, more affirming for all students, faculty, and staff … blah blah yada yada …
