Michael James Barton’s exhortation that “when you hear the word ‘sharia,’ think ‘Jim Crow’” is inarguable, but isn’t confined to women. All non-Muslims living in Muslim countries are subjects of a Jim Crow regime, and have been for 1,400 years — Islam requires that dhimmis pay a special infidel tax, that dhimmis may not testify against a believer, can’t have church bells, can’t even do maintenance on churches without government permission, can’t carry weapons, have to lower their eyes in the presence of a Muslim, have to wear different clothes (at least that’s been relaxed), etc., etc., etc. Our own Jim Crow system in the South was a pale and short-lived imitation by comparison.
