New SEC Enforcement Chief

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that my former sidekick Rob Khuzami will become the enforcement chief at the Securities and Exchange Commission.  Rob was one of my two partners (Pat Fitzgerald was the other) on the Blind Sheikh terrorism prosecution in the 1990s.  Later, he ran the securities and commodities fraud unit in our office (the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York) before becoming a top lawyer at Deutsche Bank.  He worked hard to help us get the Patriot Act re-authorized and was a featured speaker at the GOP convention in 2004.  He’s smart and honest, tough on real fraudsters but mindful that you can’t suffocate business and expect an economy to work.  He’s a great choice, and he’ll do a great job.
