The New, Toned-Down Trump

I keep reading that Trump was “relatively restrained” in his remarks last night. And he was, relative to how he has spoken on other occasions. But here’s how he addressed a question about his relationship with Speaker Ryan: “I’m going to get along great with Congress. Paul Ryan, I don’t know him well, but I’m sure I’m going to get along great with him. And if I don’t, he’s going to have to pay a big price.” This is the new, sedate, practically presidential Trump — and he still engages in the kind of casual, thoughtless bluster that would dominate the news coverage if any other political figure did it.
