I’m told, though I didn’t do any legwork to get it confirmed, that it’s because of permit problems—that some city officials might have been afraid of violence if in front of the U.N. or the Iranian mission, in particular because of the news of the recent expulsion of Iranian diplomats for their curious picture taking.
It makes you livid: We should be encouraging the freedom supporters, and yet, again and again, in big ways and small, we seem to be, directly or not, wanting to suppress them a little, quell the passion.
