The New York Times vs. DeVos

The lousiness of the Times’s coverage of Betsy DeVos has been a running theme of mine for the last few weeks. I’ve written about an op-ed that misrepresented the performance of charter schools in Detroit, an editorial that repeated that misrepresentation, and an article that distorted DeVos’s record on the regulation of charter schools.

But it turns out that the coverage has been even worse than I suspected. Max Eden explains the lengths to which Times reporter Kate Zernike went to invent figures that made DeVos’s record look bad.
