Try as I will, politics keeps intruding.

We just got to this bit in the libretto:

Bill:  I have traveled round

    All the lands subject to you,

    And have armed a thousand

    Loyal men in your defense.

    Come! Let Hillary’s standard

    Be unfurled at last!

    Avenging both your people’s wrongs

    And your own indignities!

Except of course that it’s not Bill addressing Hill, but Orombello (Pavarotti) addressing Beatrice (Sutherland).
