No Facebook Passwords for Bosses

Last week, MSNBC had a story about employers and colleges asking for access to Facebook accounts, either by having people share their passwords or by adding someone as a friend. I make the case in USA Today that while it’s easy to see why employers and colleges would want that access (it’s valuable information!), people should resist sharing it: there’s nothing wrong about having a social life that you want kept separate from your work life. And as a Facebook-defender (it’s a terrific way to stay in touch with people), I’d hate to see the site changed into a dull, professional-appropriate sphere.

And for the record, no, Lowry has not asked me to fork over my Facebook password.
