No Laughing Matter

Okay, it was business as usual when, post-Boston, everyone did the usual no-Islam-to-see-here routine.

And I wasn’t really surprised when CNN’s Candy Crowley, having accidentally let the I-word slip her lips, immediately apologized:

Let me just, let me put it a different way, and that is that first of all we know that both the CIA and the FBI were told by Russia, their counterparts, “You got to look at this guy, we think he’s been radicalized. We think he’s a terrorist.” Then we have the fact that up came these, at some point after a trip to Russia and before it, up came Islamic videos, or, I’m sorry, terrorist videos on his website.

But now the President of the United States can’t even mention the word en passant in a joke without the Associated Press airbrushing it:

President Obama then said, “These days I look in the mirror and have to admit, I’m not the strapping young Muslim Socialist that I used to be. Time passes, you get a little gray.”

In one version of the night’s story (as seen at Huffington Post, Time Magazine, Breitbart Wires, the Ottawa Citizen, and The Columbian to name a few), the AP’s Bradley Klapper forgot one part of the President’s joke.

“I’m not the strapping young Socialist that I used to be,” the president remarked, and then recounted his recent 2-for-22 basketball shooting performance at the White House Easter Egg hunt.

Not-So-Open Mike Night at the AP: So a Catholic, a Jew and a Muslim walk into a bar, and the barman says to the Catholic and the Jew, “Hey, where’d the other fellow go?”
