No Stimulants Please, We’re Republicans

On this always vexing issue of whether it is more important to go with electability or principle — I am already tired of hearing GOP candidates promise “economic stimulus” to prevent a potential recession. One of the few things I really really admired about George H.W. Bush, was his willingness to sit tight and let the economy correct itself — during a recession in 1991, while facing re-election, and activist promises from the opposition.  But, my admiration notwithstanding, he did lose, because he was “out of touch” and insufficiently good at the sob sister function of government.  So what’s a conservative to do?
