Christianity Today is reporting that Richard Cizik has resigned at vice president for governmental affairs of the National Association of Evangelicals. Cizik was best known for his attempts to broaden evangelicals’ public political agenda  to include environmental issues, especially global warming. Cizik came under fire when he told NPR he had changed his mind about gay civil unions and seemed uncertain about whether he could support gay marriage as well.

Cizik also came under fire from gay rights organizations for agreeing to be a signatory to NoMobVeto.org – a full-page NYT ad and accompanying website sponsored by the Becket Fund for Religous Liberty which decried religiously motivated violence against Mormons in the wake of Prop 8.
