Not in Defense of John McCain

In connection with the utterly partisan and disingenuous Senate Armed Services report last week on detainee abuse, which is simply a continuation of the Bush Torture Myth perpetuated by Democrats and their fellow-travelers, Fellow Traveler Numero Uno, Sen. John McCain, was quoted as follows in the WSJ’s coverage:

“The committee’s report details the inexcusable link between abusive interrogation techniques used by our enemies who ignored the Geneva Conventions and interrogation policy for detainees in U.S. custody,” Sen. McCain said in a statement. “These policies are wrong and must never be repeated.”

So al Qaeda — which is not and cannot be a party to the Geneva Conventions, and which has never done anything but torture and kill its captives — ignores Geneva and follows its torture/kill practice because of American policy rather than twisted jihadist ideology?  Really Senator?

I haven’t liked the last four weeks so I imagine I’m gonna like the next four years even less.  But I must confess I don’t find myself thinking, “If only McCain had been elected …”

Meantime, for anyone interested (and smart enough to subscribe to NR), I have an article on the Torture Myth in the current Bush Retrospective issue of the mag.

How Trump Should Approach the Final Debate

The so-called mainstream polls of the swing states show the race narrowing. If the trend continues at the current rate, President Trump could poll even in two weeks—in addition to the “other” polls that show him near there already. So Trump’s mission at the final debate on Thursday is to continue to ... Read More

Biden Can’t Tax the Rich

Joe Biden’s tax plan is based on a deathless myth: that taxes are actually paid in economic terms by those upon whom they legally fall. The obviousness of this nonsense is clear enough if you put the proposition into plain English: “Don’t you worry, now, we’re not going to raise taxes on you, Bubba — ... Read More
