Not Just Polar Bears

Jonah mentions the all-too-common “everything bad is caused by global warming” storyline. One of the most absurd examples I’ve yet seen arrived in my mailbox just yesterday. The April issue of The Atlantic includes in its table of contents the following feature:

The Real Roots of Darfur: The violence in Darfur is usually attributed to ethnic hatred. But global warming may be primarily to blame.

PRIMARILY to blame? Really? To the author’s credit, the article itself (by Stephan Faris) is much more restrained in its claims.
