Not Just Toying With, But Humiliating Us

Yuval: I agree that Putin’s column exhibited chutzpah. But it blatantly showed that he is in control of events, not Obama–which represents a profound humiliation for the USA and the president. Attacking American Exceptionalism, (correct me if I am wrong, but I think the first time Obama touted AE was in the pointless Syria speech.) Putin has seized the role of “the reasonable voice”–when he is helping Iran with its nuke program–and made Russia the big foot in the Middle East.

Get this ending:

It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation. There are big countries and small countries, rich and poor, those with long democratic traditions and those still finding their way to democracy. Their policies differ, too. We are all different, but when we ask for the Lord’s blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal.

That’s a leftist view of “equality” that completely misstates what the term American Exceptionalism expresses. Sorry, all cultures and political systems are not equal. But many of us have become so self loathing that they are cheering Putin’s denigration.

Not since the Iran Hostage Crisis has the USA been made to look so impotent. I have never seen another world leader whipsaw a POTUS so easily and obviously.

Putin may now be able to credibly claim the mantle of the world’s leader. And that means real trouble for the world.
