Liberal media company NowThis, which shares news exclusively via videos posted to social media, published a disturbingly hypocritical “op-ed” a few days ago. Rapper B.o.B, the video contends, has a responsibility to stop spreading false information on his social media platforms because of the number of his followers. “These dangerous conspiracy theories,” the outfit submitted, “might easily lead an impressionable person to develop deeply problematic views of the world.”
Surely, though, NowThis violates this principle in the exact same way on its own page, which boasts 12 million Facebook likes and millions of views per video. Impressionable millennial viewers, hungry for proof that backs up their left-wing beliefs, eat up these often fact-devoid videos. Indeed, NowThis employees appear to be so delusional that they even include a left-wing conspiracy theory in the B.o.B criticism video itself: Over a video of Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush reads the text, “Given America’s documented culture of systemic oppression.”
Ironically, B.o.B is far less likely to convince his followers to adopt deeply problematic views of the world than NowThis. Unlike them, he never calls his Instagram or Facebook pages “news.”
