It’s increasingly apparent that this need not be the case. Expect some publications on that in the next few months (and there have been some in the past year, e.g. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/21/AR2005082101180.html). I’m coming to think more and more that new techniques will take away the moral issues here in the next few years–all the more reason to hold fast to our principles now.
