Nuclear Terrorism

The Washington Post today, in its lead story, reports that an international smuggling ring that sold bomb-related parts to terrorist-sponsoring regimes also managed to acquire blueprints for an advanced nuclear weapon.

I argued in April that nuclear terrorism had become a real possibility and that we should be taking this threat seriously. But we are not. Instead, five justices of the Supreme Court have now given Constitutional protections to unlawful enemy combatants. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi continues to hobble foreign intelligence gathering. The ACLU, MoveOn.org and similar groups oppose waging a serious war – not just in Iraq but anywhere. Their goal instead is to teach Americans the lesson they believe should have been learned from Vietnam: that American power is a malevolent force. What Andy McCarthy calls Willful Blindness has reached epidemic proportions.
