Who’s the Extremist?

In the course of its criticism of Donald Trump for his “failure to choose a more moderate candidate” for the Court, today’s New York Times editorial on the subject notes that:

While Judge Gorsuch’s views on abortion are not known, he has written extensively about assisted suicide and euthanasia. In his book on the topic, he wrote that “human life is fundamentally and inherently valuable, and that the intentional taking of human life by private persons is always wrong.”

The Times did not specify the grounds for its own implied view that human life is not fundamentally and inherently valuable, or that the intentional taking of human life by private persons is not always wrong. So it’s not easy to know quite what to say about this assertion by implication, except that it is more honest than abortion advocates have usually been.
