Obama and Reliably Democratic States

A reader writes to correct me, noting that Obama beat Hillary not only in the reliably Democratic states of Illinois, Washington, and Vermont but in the equally reliably Democratic states of Hawaii, Delaware, and Maryland, all of which are so small on the New York Times map in question that my bespectabled eyes simply missed them.

Not, of course, that this affects the point:  Namely, that Obama lost huge Democratic states to Hillary, clinching the nomination only by winning states during the primary season that he’ll lose this fall.
