President Obama did not mince words when discussing the Republicans’ positions on the continuing resolution and the looming debt-limit deadline negotiations. The president used descriptors such as “ransom,” “hostage-taking,” and “blowing the whole thing up” through a Tuesday afternoon press conference.
“We can’t make extortion routine as part of our democracy,” the president told reporters. He warned that it would set a dangerous precedent for future presidents.
Nonetheless, the president offered to meet with “reasonable Republicans” again as he did during his so-called charm offensive earlier this year. “I’ll even spring for dinner again,” he said.
