During his final press conference of the year, President Obama dismissed the poll numbers showing a growing lack of confidence in his job performance. “If I was interested in polling, I wouldn’t have run for president,” he told reporters on Friday.
“My polls have gone up and down a lot through the course of my career,” he said, pointing to the 70 percent approval rating he enjoyed as a U.S. senator.
In recent months, thanks in large part to the disastrous rollout of the Affordable Care Act, the president’s approval rating has dropped to an all-time low. Earlier in the press conference, however, President Obama rejected the idea that 2013 stands as the worst year of his presidency. The president and his family will close out the year in Hawaii, for which the president will depart later this afternoon.
