Obama: Pass Tax Cut Deal Swiftly

President Obama asked Congress this morning to pass the tax cut compromise “as swiftly as possible,” stressing its importance to generating economic growth and helping the middle class.

Noting that some Democrats and Republicans had spoken out against the deal, Obama said in a press briefing, “That’s the nature of compromise. But we worked hard to negotiate an agreement that’s a win for middle class families and a win for our economy.”

“We can’t afford to let it fall victim to either delay or defeat,” Obama added.

The Senate is scheduled to vote on the compromise this afternoon. The House is expected to take up the legislation on Thursday or Friday.
