On Obama

Anyone who quotes The American Crisis by Thomas Paine–”Let it be told to the future world,” etc.–has an instinct for good prose–and must know that his own will never be quite so good.

He put a lot on the tee–ready to lead the world, but expecting to defeat our enemies; a new era of responsibility at home. But God is in the details–and so is the devil, and plain old ordinary snafu.

He will try, and the media will help him, to keep a surge of momentum carrying him through the struggles of politics, and given who he is historically, it will work to a certain extent. But he will understand that this is not the Senate, or the Illinois legislature.
