On Friday, the House will vote on chairman Fred Upton’s bill, the “Keep Your Health Plan Act.” It’s expected to pass with scattered Democratic support. President Obama, however, has pledged to veto it, and issued a statement earlier tonight:
“The Administration supports policies that allow people to keep the health plans that they have,” the White House said in a statement Thursday evening. “But, policies that reverse the progress made to extend quality, affordable coverage to millions of uninsured, hardworking, middle class families are not the solution.”
“If the President were presented with [the bill], he would veto it,” the statement concluded.
A senior House Republican tells me he expects “30 to 40″ Democrats to back the bill. But a few conservatives, he adds, have some issues with the legislation, so the GOP vote will be strong, but it’s unlikely to be unanimous.
