Obama vs. Clinton. Or…

Howard Dean’s dream of having someone drop out appears rather elusive right now. There’s no way Obama drops out after winning most of the delegates, and there’s no way Clinton drops out if she manages to make it close or wins in North Carolina and finishes strong in the last few primaries.

For whom should Republicans root? Each one has advantages. One experienced Republican campaign hand told me yesterday, “If I want to win the next four elections, I’m rooting for Hillary. But if I just really want to win this election, I’m rooting for Obama.” I think he’s being a bit sanguine, but I can see what he means.

Meanwhile, Keith Olbermann is discussing the possibility of a third candidate tonight. He mentioned Biden and Edwards, but I am a longtime fan of Derb’s “Just Gore Theory.”
