President Obama said Wednesday night that his signature piece of legislation, the Affordable Care Act, wasn’t designed as well as it should have been.
In an interview with NBC’s Chuck Todd, Obama defended the law but expressed frustration that it had been so disruptive.
“We tried to find a proven model — we’ve seen it work in Massachusetts — that would be as undisruptive as possible. And in good faith, tried to write the law in such a way that people could keep their care,” Obama said. “But obviously, we didn’t do a good enough job in terms of how we crafted the law. And, you know, that’s something I regret.”
Todd noted that the president’s sentiments made it sound as if he’d support some of the legislation currently before Congress to change or delay the law; Obama demurred.
