Yuval Levin and Hugh Hewitt speculate that by responding to Jerome Corsi’s book the Obama campaign is merely drawing more attention to the book’s allegations. That may be true, but it appears that the Obama campaign has calculated that they will make a greater impact providing a sympathetic media with plausible talking points. The media narrative thus becomes “Corsi refuted” rather than “Obama embattled.”
The problem, as noted by Jim Geraghty and Hewitt, is that several of the purported refutations are themselves, at best, misdirections. One of the most easily verifiable is Obama’s continued insistence that he voted against the Illinois Born Alive Act because it lacked an abortion neutrality clause. Remarkable.
Obama now has unequivocally repeated this falsehood several times. Is he that confident nobody in the mainstream media will call him on it?
The axiom is that in politics the cover-up always does worse damage than the act itself. In this case that would be some feat.
