Obama’s Dead Cat Bounce

So just a week after Obama clinches his nomination and the polls now have him in a statistical tie with McCain. All of the adulatory coverage of what is rightly an historical event, and he was never up by more than seven points and a week later he’s back down to earth. A few observations:

–Barack running up a significant lead from the get go might have hurt McCain’s fundraising right when McCain most needs the cash. It doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.

–Obama’s campaign seems far less confident of its position than they are letting on, and are aggressively looking at unusual electoral strategies. That is to say they don’t appear, at least according to this AP report, at all confident they’ll win Florida or Ohio.

–There’s still a large number of undecided voters in the race that can’t be taken for granted, so McCain needs to continue to aggressively pursue Hillary voters.
