As (Amy Holmes and others) predicted, Senator Obama has quit the Trinity Church which he attended for twenty years. You can’t run for president without being a member of a church, so this is a good time to make preliminary bets on what church he will join next. I’m sure someone on his staff is doing the numbers and running a focus group about whether joining a Reform Synagogue will get him the votes he needs in Florida and a few other states, or, more plausibly, joining a Catholic Church will solve some of his massive problems with the blue collar “ethnic” Democrats, who are, regardless of national background, mostly Catholic. But maybe this is the moment to go after the Evangelicals? Or maybe he could just join a nice, mainline Protestant church in his neighborhood. Do residents of Hyde Park go to church?
