I was catching up on some reading this weekend and noticed Peggy Noonan – whom I much admire — wrote in a recent WSJ column:
Mr. Obama reveals many things in his books, speeches and interviews but polarity and a tropism toward the extreme are not among them.
Quite a number of conservatives seem to take this view. I have to wonder why. Consider:
To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist Professors and the structural feminists and punk-rock performance poets.

Also consider not just Obama’s long-term relationship with Jeremiah Wright (see Stanley Kurtz’s most recent piece here) but his associations with Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn and Rashid Khalidi as noted by Andy McCarthy here.
If all that doesn’t suggest polarity and a tropism toward the extreme, surely it will do until the real thing comes along.
