Less than 24 hours after President Obama effectively proclaimed that a vote for Democratic candidates are a vote for him and his policies, Republicans have used the line in new campaign ads.
Speaking at Northwestern University on Thursday, the president said his “policies are on the ballot,” an idea that several vulnerable Democratic candidates have tried to stay away from over the past year:
I am not on the ballot this fall — Michelle’s pretty happy about that — but make no mistake: These policies are on the ballot, every single one of them.
By Friday, Republican Senate candidates had already released ads, featuring President Obama’s statement and tying it to their opponents. In Kansas, Republican incumbent Pat Roberts featured the line in an effort to cast his challenger, independent candidate Greg Orman, as a Democratic ally:
