The Corner

Oh, Susana!

I was looking at an article on the New Mexico governor’s race this morning. And I read that Susana Martinez, the Republican nominee, “will become the nation’s first female Hispanic governor if elected.” Then I thought of Harry Reid — just an obscure Democratic politician from Nevada. Majority leader of the U.S. Senate. During the present campaign, he said, “I don’t know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican, okay? Do I need to say more?” Maybe Susana Martinez — preferably as governor — could explain it to him someday.

Meantime, I hope that Sharron Angle wins that Nevada Senate race. As I have said in my column, that is my number-one wish for November (I think). (That is, if we’re talkin’ specific races.) Harry Reid is not merely a buffoon — isn’t it Angle who’s supposed to be clownish and embarrassing? — but a poison in our politics. And Democrats apparently can’t help making a man like that their leader in the “world’s greatest deliberative body.”

You want other November wishes from me? I know you didn’t ask. And everyone can make his own list, surely. In any case, here’s a little list from me — I’m checkin’ it twice: Angle over Reid; Rubio over Crist and Meek; Carly over Boxer; former governor Bob Ehrlich returned to the governorship in Maryland. He is one of the best conservative-libertarian minds and spirits out there.

I’m sure I’ve left very important things — critically important things — out of my list. Such is the nature of list-making (I’ve found).
