Ohioans want to repeal Gov. John Kasich’s signature piece of legislation, S.B. 5, by a 54–36 margin, according to a new poll by Quinnipiac University. Fifty-three percent of respondents say the governor’s proposals are “unfair to people like them.” As a result, 49 percent disapprove of the governor’s performance, while 38 percent approve.
Opponents of the S.B. 5 object to the law’s limits on public-employee collective bargaining. As a result, they are circulating a petition to put a repeal motion on the ballot this November. They must get 231,147 valid signatures from registered voters by June 30 to win a slot.
In Quinnipiac’s poll, 72 percent of Democrats and 56 percent of independents support repeal.
