Mel Martinez has said that the GOP is within “striking distance” of taking down the president’s omnibus spending bill. The leadership mood I’m gauging thinks not. A Senate source tells The Corner: ”Enough Dems will vote for cloture (even if they are against the bill and vote ‘no’ on final passage) to move it along.” But, one source notes, quasi-optimistically, with some long-term vision: “This bill has really been great for showing where the parties are, and gives hope for future spending fights. People are already fed up with spending — and we haven’t even touched the budget yet.”
