Eagle Forum, the organization that Phyllis Schlafly founded, has a response to my recent print piece in which I revisited her 1964 book A Choice Not an Echo. Schlafly did indeed have some remarkable achievements, for which she should be honored. I wanted to grapple with this book on its own terms, because that kind of engagement is how we learn from our history.
In that spirit, I would warmly encourage readers to pick up A Choice Not an Echo, encounter her in her own words, and draw their own conclusions. One of Schlafly’s finest traits was her immense determination in pursuing goods she considered precious, and in that respect, almost all of us would do well to be more like her.
