Only 5 Obamacare Enrollees in Washington, D.C.

A grand total of five people have completed enrollment in Obamacare thus far in Washington, D.C., according to information compiled by Republican senators Chuck Grassley (Iowa) and Orrin Hatch (Utah).

Since the health-care exchanges launched on October 1, three people have enrolled in plans with insurer Kaiser Permanente and another two have enrolled with CareFirst BlueShield. They have all paid their first month of premiums, though more people have completed applications and have not yet paid.

The District of Columbia, like 16 states, runs its own health-care exchange named DC HealthLink. Richard Sorian, the exchange’s spokesman, told Politico that over 300 District residents and 426 small businesses have selected a plan.

Two other insurers on the exchange, Aetna and UnitedHealthcare, said they had no enrollment data as of October 24 and November 4, respectively.
