Opera Obit

This obit in today’s Washington Post celebrates the life of Italian soprano Giulietta Simionato, who would have reached age 100 next week. A gifted singer and actress, she was a link to another era in opera and in history (one of her husbands had been Mussolini’s physician). But you have to love this sentence toward the end: “A complete list of her marriages and survivors could not be confirmed.”

It’s reminiscent of Tom Lehrer’s tribute to Alma Mahler Gropius Werfel.
