Opportunity Costs

From a reader:

Dear Mr. Goldberg,

Let me be one of what will doubtless be a chorus of people to suggest to you that your defining characteristic of conservatives (that they are comfortable with contradiction) can perhaps be restated as:

Conservatives understand and accept the reality of opportunity cost.

The key moment in most of our lives, when we finally reach maturity, is when we understand that choosing one road entails *not* choosing another, perhaps permanently. The “false choices” argument rests completely on denying this most unfortunate fact of life.

Take care!
