I just learned that the Liberty Fund is bringing out To Secure the Blessings of Liberty: Selected Writings of Gouverneur Morris. I first discovered Morris writing about Washington and Hamilton, who were both friends of his. Every time he popped up he said something witty or caustic, often both. He is best known for writing the final draft of the Constitution (the Preamable is all his work) and a Paris diary covering the early years of the French Revolution. Despite a peg leg, he had many girl friends, including Talleyrand’s mistress.

The Liberty Fund’s selection is edited by J. Jackson Barlow, a professor at Juniata College (Huntington, Pa.).
