For what it’s worth, I just got this from a Corner reader who works in one of the skyscrapers on Park Avenue, just north of Grand Central: “This past week have seen a huge increase in local security measures in and around our building:
1) We’ve had 2 fire drills and 1 evacuation drill this week; we usually have just 1 fire drill per quarter
2) Usually, there’s 2 to 4 police officers stationed in the local area; this week, it’s more like 50…all clustered around choke points on Park at 49th, 50th, and 51st.
3) Concrete barricades appeared Monday on Park along the Park Avenue side of the Waldorf, along with a NYPD Mobile command post.
4) On Wednesday, Sanitation department dump trucks filled with sand were deployed and remain along the entirety of 49th St between Park and Lex”
