Outbreak of Sanity: No Veils in Drivers License Photos

A state appeals court in Florida has upheld a lower court ruling that a Muslim woman may be forbidden to wear a veil to obscure her face in a driver’s license photo. The woman had claimed that the requirement to submit to such a photograph infringed on her constitutional right to free religious exercise. The appeals court rejected the claim, holding that the law, which does not target religion and is applicable to everyone, did not run afoul of the First Amendment.
