Overseas Contingency Operations Are Hell

Eli Lake and and Jon Ward have a revealing piece today on the White House officially banning such terms as “jihadists” and “global war on terrorism.”

As for the “war on terrorism,” Mr. Brennan said the administration is not going to say that “because ‘terrorism’ is but a tactic – a means to an end, which in al Qaeda’s case is global domination by an Islamic caliphate.”

“You can never fully defeat a tactic like terrorism any more than you can defeat the tactic of war itself,” Mr. [John] Brennan [head of the White House homeland security office] said.

Okay, but then shouldn’t World War I and World War II be renamed Overseas Contingency Operation I and Overseas Contingency Operation II?
