Palestinian President Applauds Call for Muslims to Start Holy War in Jerusalem

A Palestinian minister’s speech calling on Muslims to launch a holy war in Jerusalem drew applause from Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas, according to a recent video. Abbas’ reaction came during a speech by Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud al-Habbash.

“Whoever wants resistance, whoever wants jihad knows the direction for jihad is clear,” said al-Habbash, according to Palestinian Media Watch. “Those who send young people to Syria or elsewhere to die for a misdirected cause must stop and understand that Jerusalem is still waiting.”

After al-Habbash’s passionate remarks, Abbas can be seen in the front row applauding the minister.

United States secretary of state John Kerry is currently engaged in negotiations with Abbas and Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, over a possible peace deal.
